2019 SGVHV Cancer Caregiver Award
This award was the brainchild of our president, Mr Haywood. After several years of the Star Group Veterans Helping Veterans members submitting awesome stories and never being acknowledged, Mr Haywood decided we would have our own Caregiver and Survivor Awards. It took some ironing out the kinks but it is now a reality and is headed by the SGVHV Cancer Lead person, Mr John Cook.
The criteria required an Essay (no more than 500 words) be submitted to Mr Cook by the imposes deadline. The Cancer Team reviewed the essays and decided which one was to be SGVHV Winner
After reviewing the submission(s) and the Cancer Team vote our 2019 Caregiver of Year Award selected Ms Joannie Shedrick.
Although Joanie is also a Cancer Survivor she decided to write her Essay on her experience of a Caregiver where she took care of her mother. She indicated it was a honor and a blessing to be able to take care of her Mother.
The story of her sacrifice and dedication bought tears to the entire group attending our April monthly meeting. Ms Timmons, SGVHV Executive Director read Joannie’s Essay as tears were falling and the room was extremely quiet. Mr Cook, SGVHV AC member and Cancer Lead person and Mr Robertson, SGVHV Vice President presented Ms Shedrick with her embroidered sash and plaque.
Ms Shedrick said she was honored to be selected and cried during the entire award ceremony.
CONGRATULATIONS MS JOANNIE SHEDRICK
