Monday, Memorial Day 2018 was a somber day as many honored and remembered the brave military men and women who lost their lives while serving our country. Star Group – Veterans Helping Veterans hosted its annual Memorial Day remembrance and wreath-laying ceremony. Several veterans’ groups attended the event, many bringing their own wreaths and remembering the fallen. "Everyone in every war that our soldiers and our family members have participated in, we continue, through our services, to make sure their legacy lasts forever," said Jonathan Haywood, SG – VHV president. "We gotta celebrate their lives to let them know that they meant something to us." Haywood said it was important to not only remember those who lost their lives, but also to celebrate their lives as well. He also made sure to thank members of the community and the various veteran groups that attended. Copperas Cove Mayor Frank Seffrood said that it’s important to remember those who came before us. He talked about the footprints in the sand left by those who gave their lives for our country. He said we can trace, lengthen, or shorten those footprints, but they are some pretty big footprints to follow. Seffrood added that it’s important for us to honor those men and women who died while serving our country. After the speeches, the various veteran organizations brought out their wreaths, lining them up and placing them in front of the podium. Each group saluted their wreath and remembered those they had lost.
Afterward, Arthur Bryan played "Taps" and Diane Jones rang out the memorial bell to pay tribute while Haywood read out the names of those in SG – VHV Organization who lost their lives or passed away.
Following the Ceremony an awesome Spread was served inside the SGVHV Building
