Star Group Veterans host Memorial Day Ceremony at their Headquarters

STAR GROUP VETERANS HELPING VETERANS hosted their annual Memorial Day Ceremony at their Headquarters.

Memorial Day serves as a special day to remember and honor those brave men and women in the armed forces who died while serving their country.  Several veteran organizations from the surrounding areas, including SG-VHV, TREA,  Retired Enlisted Association, Military Order of the Purple Heart chapter 8176, Operation Stand Down Central Texas, The Women’s Army Corps, Veterans’ Association chapter 94, Disabled American Veterans chapter 29, Veterans Advisory Committee, and VFW post 9191 were at the event to honor those who fell in the line of duty by presenting their organization wreaths.

Along with the veteran groups were several community leaders, Rabbit Fest Royalty, active duty military and their family, as well as civilians who wanted to take a moment to say Thank You.

As usual SG-VHV President, Jonathan Haywood put together an awesome touching ceremony and after the ceremony the Star Group Veteran Team served a great lunch.

Mayor Frank Seffrood, a retired Army command sergeant major, thanked everyone for coming out by saying, “I’m so glad to see all of you from the community — this is how we pay tribute. This day isn’t just about honoring veterans — it’s honoring those who lot their lives.”

The guest speaker was Anthony Triola, field representative for U.S. Rep. John Carter, R-Round Rock, in honoring the men and women in uniform who gave their lives in the nations wars at the Star Group-Veterans Helping Veterans Memorial Day wreath laying ceremony in Copperas Cove.

Triola started his speech by asking all those who had served their nation to stand and be recognized. He also asked everyone to remember the families left behind by those who paid the ultimate price.  “If you know a Gold Star family, please, find it in your heart today to embrace them,” he said. “Pray for them, remember them, for we are all one people, one community, one great and grateful nation. We are all these things because of the few who gave their all.”
