The eager little faces of 3- to 5-year-old children at the Copperas Cove Sunshine Head Start program lit with excitement on Dec 19, 2019, as Star Group - Veterans Helping Veterans members (Karen Powell, Lovell Mitchell, Jesse Caruth, Anna Mcbean, Joe Hill, Allisa Sherman, Fred Funchess) and Santa donned Santa hats and ushered in the Christmas spirit. The children were excited and dressed in their holiday clothing.

As Santa sat by the Christmas tree, his helpers (SG-VHV Members) called one child at a time to come up to visit with Santa and to receive their gifts.   Once everyone received their gifts, which included a jacket, hats, gloves, scarf plus a bag full of toys; they were instructed to open some of their gifts and the others were taken home to be placed under their Christmas tree.

Again, Star Group-Veterans Helping Veterans along with Sams Club Harker Heights stepped up and helped put smiles on the faces of the students and their families.  Sams Club supplied all of the coats for each child. And With the help of Sharon Tabor and Refresh Spa in Copperas Cove the workers were presented with a gift certificate for a free massage.

Star Group-Veterans Helping Veterans was asked to assist this head start program with Christmas a few years ago because their donor was no longer able to help.  Then the SG-VHV team voted to adopt the Copperas Cove Sunshine Head Start and will ensure that they always have a wonderful Christmas.

“All week they were excited because Santa was coming. This is good for them and very special, because it helps give them ‘the something good’ — the Magic of Christmas.

Several of these families count on a daily hot meal from the Soup Kitchen.

As a tradition, Star Group Veterans Helping Veterans each holiday season sets out to bring joy to the various organizations.

This year as well as last year, we presented a gift to the Bring Everyone In The Zone - Children Toy Drive Event. This is where Ms Jouett and Bring Everyone In The Zone gets presents and distributes them to children in need. At the December AVAC meeting Mr. Michael Barker SGVHV Advisory Board member presented Miss Jouett with a $300 check for this endeavor.

Star Group Veterans Helping Veterans will continue to support Bring Everyone In The Zone as they were one of the first non profits to come to our rescue when we first began. SGVHV Participates in Wreath for Vets Preparation

Written by

Star Group Veterans Helping Veterans led by our new SGVHV LEAD TEAM and many others volunteers helped prepare and sort the thousands of wreaths that will be placed on gravesites next Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
We were part of the Copperas Cove Team, led by Ms Diane Campbell.

“Our community comes together to pay the ultimate and the respect to the soldiers buried out at the cemetery," Naomi Roupe said.  Roupe, a Gold Star representative for Wreaths for Vets, says this year the group is expecting over 8,000 gravesites that will need to be filled. Volunteers help make the process a lot easier.

Included in the hundreds of volunteers were those who have also served in the military and their families.  This is another way to give back

“As they say, some gave some, some gave it all. We want to be able to give back to those. We also encounter the families that are there. We are able to give them a nice big hug and say ‘we are still with you’ and give them a smile and help them carry on for the rest of the year,"  Sylvia Gavin said.

Ms Shine was presented with a personal quilt with several of the previous TShirts/Logos

From adults to children, every age group was represented inside the events center.

The annual wreath laying ceremony will start at 10 a.m. on Nov. 30th.  Volunteers are needed to help disperse wreaths at the cemetery.

SGVHV Wreath for Vets Lead Team

Written by

Star Group Veteran Helping Veteran decided this year to have a Wreath for Vet team. This Event in the past has been handled very well by one person Ms Pam Jamerson. This year she requested that she stepped down but we decided to leave her in her position as the lead emeritus. We went out to the Star Group Team and found volunteers who would like to help.

Mr. John Cook and Ms Sheila Timmons will guide the new team.

The new team consist of Ms Georgia Bridges, Mr. Victor Robinson, Ms. Viveninne Robinson and Mr Monroe Spencer.

This team will go to the meetings and handle the Wreath preparation, Wreath laying and Wreath retrievals.

Star Group Veterans Helping Veterans thanks these individuals for their dedication and leadership

As we Celebrate the Holidays, Star Group-Veterans Helping Veterans advisory committee is out spreading cheer. This stop is at the Klleen juvenile detention center. Star Group partnered with Operation Stand Down of Copperas Cove (Ms Joann Cortland & Ms Trudie) and supplied gifts for over 125 youth.  The holiday bags consisted of personal hygiene items, T-shirts, socks, underwear and other items to make this Christmas holiday special.

If we invest a little time and love in the youth of today hopefully they will become productive citizens of tomorrow.
