SG-VHV - thanks you for another successful event!

Copperas Cove Mayor John A. Hull addresses the crowd that gathered for the second annual Star Group Veterans Helping Veterans Health Fair.

Star Group – Veterans Helping Veterans thanks CC Chamber and City for this combined effort. Also a Special thanks to the Event Co-Sponsor Dr Sean Burgest of Harker Heights Medical Clinic. And last but not least thank you to the Vendors and Community another successful Health Fair which was held at the Copperas Cove Civic Center. The Health Fair had representatives from 26 businesses and organizations offering screenings, information and support for a wide range of health and wellness issues. Star Group VHV President Jonathan Haywood in conjunction with the event’s main sponsor, Dr. Sean Burgest of the Harker Heights Medical Clinic, wanted the community, specifically low- income residents and those struggling to have their health care needs met, to have an opportunity to see local available options and have a chance to get general questions addressed.
This year’s event was held at the same time as the Annual Gallop or Trot 5K in an effort to draw more participants and spread information to a larger part of the population. The rising cost of healthcare added to a struggling economy has made access to free and low cost health care more important than ever. In the pursuit of a healthier community, the largest obstacle is a lack of information. Star Group VHV has addressed this need in a big way.
Well-known faces of the healthcare community were represented by Tricare Dental, Texas Star health Services, Relay for Life, Hope Pregnancy Center, Hill Country Nursing and Rehabilitation, Texas Department of State Health Services, Enlighten Vision and
Eye Care, Bell County Public Health District, First Response Medical Training, Carl R. Darnall Medical Center and Bell County Child Welfare. As recognizable as these organizations may be many people still do not fully understand all the services each offers. Health fairs like this give people the opportunity to learn more in a relaxed setting. However, more specialized and lesser-known organizations were also on hand to fill the gaps left by traditional health care and address whole body health and wellness. These organizations were A.Y.A.D.D., Stoney Brook Assisted Living, Survivors and Thrivers On Purpose Cancer Support, Coryell
County Rainbow Room, Gentiva Hospice, Ironclad Bodywork, Crossfit Beyond Limits, Just Breathe Yoga, Triapolis WellnessCenter, Ardyss and Bring Everyone in the Zone.
The State of Texas Veterans Commission and three U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs programs were on hand to address veteran specific issues.
Mr Haywood’s plan to have the Gallop or Trot 5K trophies presented in the civic center during the health fair gave already health-minded individuals a broader look at wellness options in the area. The excitement and anticipation of the 5K awards paired with Stan the Music Man’s (Mr Stanley Davis) upbeat music gave an event addressing serious matters a lively party feeling that invited participants to mingle more, towards better health and wellness.
